If they can do it why can’t we? As I mentioned before Indians do not accept brain dead and always wait till the heartbeat stops, however, a family of a newspaper vendor took a brave decision of organ donation when the kid was declared brain dead. It is always an emotional decision and requires great courage to take such a call and I salute the spirit of the family who ended up saving the life of 4 people. In addition, great coordination work done by Delhi and Gurgaon police for making way for the paramedics to reach the hospital on time.
Dying youth from Indore gifts life to 4 across 3 cities through organ donation – All four organs came from Deepak Dhaketa, an 18-year-old newspaper vendor in Indore who was declared brain dead by doctors at the city’s Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences (SAIMS) on Wednesday evening. After three counselling sessions, Dhaketa family overcame its grief and agreed to have the youth’s organs harvested. While his kidneys were transplanted into two patients at SAIMS and Choithram Hospital and Research Centre, both in Indore, Deepak’s heart and liver were flown to Delhi.
The heart recipient was a 48-year-old woman suffering from end-stage heart disease at Medanta Medicity in Gurgaon while the liver went to a 55-year-old man suffering from liver failure at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in Vasant Kunj. All recipients are stable post-transplant.
